About

I am a wife and mother whose last name is Fether. Honest. I write mostly about the Bible, its teachings, and its applications. I also do web design, Photoshop, lots of reading, and play Boggle or Euchre when I get a chance.

Testimony

(I formerly started with a rather technical walk through my reasons for believing the Bible as God’s Word, but I’ve split that off into a new page, The Fountain of Truth. You may want to read that first, but it isn’t necessary. Here I pick up at the point of believing in God, the God of the Bible.)

Although I grew up attending a conservative Protestant church I never accepted anything without a good reason. Blind faith was never an option to me; it had to be reasonable. But I cannot remember ever thinking there might not be a God; it seemed self-evident to me that there must be one. But as time went on I became more and more disillusioned with the ignorance and apathy displayed by the adults in church concerning the reasons they believed and defense of the Bible. So I started doing my own research, and I’ve never stopped. God gave me an unquenchable thirst for the Bible, and I just can’t get enough of it. I began to read the Bible and everything related to it that I could get my hands on.

But most intriguing were the books by authors who were formerly atheists. They had set out to destroy the Bible and Christianity by digging up evidence from archeology, literature, history, etc. and hoping to publish damning evidence for all the world to see. But a funny thing happened: instead of proving Christianity to be nothing more than a psychological crutch and the Bible a collection of fables, the investigators became Christians! Not because of someone’s eloquent preaching or family tradition, but because of the evidence. That strengthened my faith in God, particularly in Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.

When you know something is true, you are faced with a choice to either accept it or live in denial of it. I’m not one to try and fool myself or deny what is plainly true, and I was convinced that Jesus (1) is God, (2) who died for the whole world, (3) and rose again. But I also was not content with merely accepting this as a personal conviction. To me there is no “sort of” or “half-way” in following Jesus. To accept him as God our Savior who will return for us and not live accordingly was unthinkable to me, and still is.

Only the Bible tells us of a God who, instead of being an impersonal force or karma counter or an implacable tyrant, loves us more than we can imagine. A God who would stoop down to our level to save us from our sin, loving us while we hated him, dying for us while we lived for ourselves, and raising up to conquer death while we ridiculed him. That’s a God worth living and dying for! How could I live like this doesn’t matter?

The glaring differences between Christianity and others is also a great source of confidence. No other religion has writings that even come close to the content of the Bible. Instead, they can only offer alleged visions and experiences, and they appeal to how well their religion “works” or the quality of the people who practice it. Just as even the most flawless counterfeit bill is still a counterfeit, a “working” false religion is still a false religion with a false god. It doesn’t matter how “good” the teachings are, how well the practitioners behave, how long it’s been around. The important thing is to determine its origin. If it cannot prove divine authorship it is a fake. And none of them really answer any questions or even try to be historically, scientifically, or logically accurate, let alone try anything like predicting the coming of a savior with great precision.

Therefore, I have chosen to put my faith in the God of the Bible. No, I’m not saying the Bible is God’s Word just because it says it is, but because it produces the proofs of 100% fulfilled prophecy and records the words of the One who was raised from the dead. Can your religion do that? No one predicted the coming of Muhammad; Buddha did not rise from the dead; Joseph Smith’s predictions proved false; humanism ignores the reality of the First Cause. Only Jesus rose from the dead, and he identified the Bible as God’s Word, which predicted His coming (among a lot of other things).

Every way I look at it, the Bible wins. Jesus wins. End of story.

Statement of Faith

I believe that the Bible is the Word of God, that it is without error in its original autographs, that nothing can be added to it or subtracted from it, that it consists of 66 Books as listed in most translations, that it is above reproach such that all else is judged by it, and that it is therefore the highest and only Authority.

I believe that Jesus is the Messiah predicted in the Old Testament, as proven by hundreds of fulfilled prophecies (Luke 24:25-27, John 1:29), his miracles, and his bodily resurrection from the dead. He is therefore the one and only Savior of the world; there is salvation in no one else and no other name. He is both fully God and fully Man at the same time. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, laid it down as the atoning sacrifice for all mankind, and took it up again in a new and immortal body. He then ascended back to heaven where he “prepares a place for us”.

I believe that salvation is by placing one’s trust in the Jesus of the Bible alone, understanding that he died for our sins and rose again. Nothing beyond this can be added to salvation, for salvation is purely a Gift and thus impossible to earn even partially.

I believe that God is a Trinity as must be concluded from a careful study of all of Scripture, consisting of the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. This Spirit personally and permanently indwells a person the moment he or she places trust in Jesus as explained in the previous paragraph. The three members of the Trinity are not mere offices, titles, or manifestations, but are distinct entities or persons.

I believe that this current age, the Church Age, is the “mystery” revealed to Paul the Apostle (Eph. 3:6), and is a time in which God focuses His attention on the Gentiles. This age will end at the Rapture, when Jesus takes all believers to heaven at once. At that moment God will again turn His attention to the nation of Israel, to finish the prophetic timetable outlined in the “seventy weeks” prophecy of Daniel. At the end of that seven years, Jesus Himself will return to the earth, bringing believers of all time with Him to set up His earthly kingdom.

(Bob, I moved your comment to The Hamster Wheel.)

Why would you allow “Bob” to post such obvious harassment about me on your website? He is one of a group of people who attempt to hack into accounts on Christian Forums, and create user after user for the express purpose of harassing me, defaming me on the site, and stirring up strife and trouble. They accuse me of all sorts of stuff, and what he has posted here is taken out of context, distorted, and in some cases non-existent. They provide “quotes” that do not exist. When they started harassing me, I began leaving little messages for them, knowing that they would find them.

Bottom line, “Bob” is guilty of far more disruption, strife, and sinful behavior toward Christians than I ever have been, on my worst day. The tactics “Bob” and his buddies use cannot be seen as “Christian” by any stretch of the imagination. Did Jesus ever harass people? Did He ever attempt to defame people or make false accusations about them? Did Jesus ever attempt to make anyone’s life miserable with constant harassment, accusation, slander and libel, and expressed hatred toward them? “Bob” has done all of these things, and more. I wouldn’t be surprised if they attempted to steal my identity info, and ruin my credit, that’s how bad this is. I do have protection against that, an expense I have had to incur precisely because of their threats. So before you start giving him a platform and credibility, you might want to do some research, and find out just who you’re dealing with.

    nobdysfool:

1- If you still intend to harass me and try to shut down my blog, you can drop the righteous indignation immediately. It’s like sending a SWAT team to a lemonade stand because the kid’s brother stepped on your roses. A Christian of any maturity would not do what you did in threatening me by email after stalking me via Whois to get my domain info and business email. You must repent and back off if you expect any kind of conversation about this.

2- Your beef with “Bob” is your problem, not mine. I am not responsible for comments made by others and will spell this out in my Disclaimer for the future. It’s call free speech, and as I explained, you are using a pseudonym and cannot complain about defamation. This is a childish attempt to get “mommy” to settle your spat with another boy at the playground. Your issues with people at someone else’s website should stay there. Otherwise you are engaging in gossip.

3- If I used your own standards on you, you’d be in much deeper molasses than “Bob”. You didn’t first come to me with a loving and genuine concern but with daggers and guns. I’ve frankly had quite enough of you and your thin-skinned, hateful, and obsessive behavior, exhibited not only here but in that board. I walked away from you and your kind, so if you have any Christian values at all you will leave me in peace. Turn “Bob” (and yourself) over to the judgment of God and then move on, or this bitterness will consume you.

4- This comment will also appear in the current post. I won’t let you hide.

So I take it that you are in agreement with the harassment that has gone on? I’m betting that your username at CF was 2thePoint. The tone and attitude is the same. Don’t worry, all I was trying to do was get your attention. Free speech is free speech, and it runs both ways, not just one way. It’s one thing to disagree with someone else, and say why, quite another to post falsehoods, provably false information about another’s beliefs, and then get all postal when corrected. Telling someone that they need to learn correctly what they think to oppose is not hateful, it is not disruptive, it is not unloving. Posting faslehoods, telling lies about what someone else believes, and stalking them on a discussion board is hardly an act of Christian love. Having strong disagreement with another person is not justification for that kind of thing. Threatening to post personal information all over the Web is not a loving act. It is a murderous, hateful, spiteful act.

It is obvious that there are some who are so immature, so consumed with hatred because they got bested in a discussion forum, that they cannot think of anything else but harassing and causing trouble for the one they have identified as the source of their supposed “pain”. You said to grow up and move on, and I echo that toward the deluded people who think they have the right to cause trouble for someone esle. The only reason I’m even bothering to address this is because it has escalated to the point of ridiculousness. Please understand that the tactice being used will NEVER achieve the obvious goal, which is to get me either to leave CF, or to be permanently banned from the site. The mods, and admins are on high alert for those playing this ridiculous juvenile, infantile game. Not because I’m anyone special, or have any pull or influence over them, but because they simply will not allow their site to be abused in that fashion. And it is abuse. Somewhere between 10 and 20 attacks just yesterday. All deleted. Time that would be much better spent spreading the Gospel.

Look, I don’t expect kudos, or any real agreement from you here. You’ve made it clear where your thinking is. However, there is much more to this than what you know, or have been told. I have exercised my right to free speech, as is my right, and those who object to some things I have said need to stop getting their panties in a knot over words. You deal in words, here, and I have no desire to stop it. You are free to disagree as much as you wish to. And I am free to speak up when I am lied about, accused falsely, threatened, and harassed. I have no doubt that you would do the same if the shoe were on your foot. And while I might not agree with your take on the matter, I would argue for your right to say it. The only thing I am really concerned about is Truth. I will not object if the Truth is told about me. but I will object when lies are spread about me.

Bottom line for any of the harassment gestapo who might read this: Give it up. Get a life, and do what’s right for Christ, i.e. spread the Gospel. If you truly do what he commands, you won’t have time for hatred.

    We clearly are not communicating.

Just stop it now. I’ll keep a record of your threats and rampages but no more will be seen in my blog. You accuse others of your own faults and cannot be reasoned with. Leave me alone.

    Hi Paula

I have just been googling and found a book “The Reformers and their Stepchildren” which seems to have been written by yourself.  Just thought to mention it as I was not aware you were an author from this blog. I shall  order from amazon.

FWIW – Dr Vances book is the best book I have read so far on reformed thinking.

    Cheers

    Bob

Hey Bob, if you look carefully I am not the author of the book but wrote a commentary on it. The commentary is free to read at my books site (click the icon in the sidebar), and the link to order the book from Amazon is in the intro of my commentary. Excellent book, well worth reading.

One of my missions is to produce a short tract that highlights Calvinism with the Bible. The trouble is keeping it short which is why Dr Vance’s book is huge.

If anyone is interested, George Bryson wrote a shorter book than Dr Vances called ‘The Dark side of Calvinism. I emailed George and he offered to fly half way around the world to do a talk at my local church. Now thats dedication.

There is a great need for concise teachings, that’s for sure. Even the simple gospel has been terribly complicated by time and tradition, which I’ve tried to untangle here (see the README page and click on Three Laws Saved). I also made a “quick reference” for the topic of women in Christianity, and I think a similar document might be useful for Calvinism as well.

Were you able to find the commentary on Reformers/Stepchildren at my books site?
